During two days, the project team and the expert team met for the 4th and last workshop in Croatia, before the concluding conference in July 2024 in Sarajevo. On Friday, before the official start of the workshop, the team explored Zagreb on the traces of antifascist resistance with Sanja Horvatinčić from the Institute of Art History in Zagreb. We learned how the memory of antifascism changed through the decades.
The first workshop day took place on the premises of the Union of Antifascist Fighters and Antifascists of the Republic of Croatia (SABA HR). There, Marin Korman, head of the archive, informed us about the work of the association and the history of the building. We continued our work on the upcoming exhibition at the History Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina and discussed the scenography and content. We also had a preview on our online platform on 100 stories of resistance and continued to work on the stories. The evening ended at the “Trnjanski Kresovi” bonfire, commemorating the liberation of Zagreb by the Partisans on 8th of May 1945.
We spent the second day of our 4th workshop at the Jasenovac Memorial Site, our Croatian cooperation partner. To start, Ivo Pejaković, director of the Memorial, gave a tour of the premises and the museum. Between 1941 to 1945, the Jasenovac concentration camp was run by the Ustasha Regime of the Independent State of Croatia (NDH), where Serbs, Roma, Jews, Croats and many others were detained and killed. In 1968 the memorial was opened with the “flower” monument designed by Bogdan Bogdanović. After lunch at the local restaurant, we continued our work on the exhibition and the platform in small groups. We ended our day by planning our next and concluding conference at the History Museum in Sarajevo which will take place from 3rd to 6th July 2024. There we will present our three outputs: the exhibition, the scientific book, and the online platform with 100 stories.
